EVOLUTIONARY ASTROLOGY

Susan's path to astrology ....

Like most things in my life that I have held at bay, or down right rejected, astrology had to thump me on the head to find a way in when more subtle approaches didn't work.  Part of what was a turn off for me were all the folks who after knowing my sun sign (zodiac sign placement of the sun at the moment of one's birth) made a whole set of assumptions about me, too many of which I knew were off base.  It was also too much of a stretch for me to believe that other planets than Earth had much to do with my life.  I loved looking at the stars and planets in the sky, but I crossed astrology off as a waste of my time.  A lesson in humility was on its way.

In the fall of 1996 I had a disturbing dream that I was challenged to understand.  For many years I had kept a dream journal and was well practiced at using a variety of methods for decoding my own dreams to further my healing and evolution, but this dream had me stumped.  As part of the decoding process I often role-played and interviewed the characters and inanimate objects in my dreams.  I was in the middle of doing this when several of my spirit friends whom I'd met during shamanic work showed up to help me out. What unfolded not only helped me to understand my dream, but opened me up to the importance of Saturn and Jupiter at that time in my life.  It precipitated an intensive period of astrological study and practice for which I am everlastingly grateful and which often proves to be an asset in assisting clients today. 

As an aside, did you know that during every moment of every day there are sub-atomic particles that have mass called neutrinos which pass through your body and everything else? These neutrinos largely seem to originate from stars and because they have mass they carry information.  By some it is postulated that they carry information to you from where they've been and also pick up information from you.  There are over three trillion neutrinos passing through every square inch of your body each second.  We do indeed seem to be affected by stars and planets.  Many of us know the truth of this without the aid of science, but I for one find it exciting to witness the bridging now occurring between the mystical and the scientific.

What is evolutionary astrology?

In a nutshell this type of astrology accepts the premise that each human being is a soul who is in a continuous process of evolution during different lifetimes. It maintains that the human process is about becoming increasingly conscious of the nature of existence, its spiritual and natural laws and the integration thereof.  The person's birth chart reflects the condition of the soul when it incarnated and its evolutionary intentions for this particular lifetime.

Jeffrey Wolf Green and Steven Forrest, humorously dubbed "the Pluto brothers," have done much of the work to develop this type of astrology.  They each approach the field in his unique way, thus enriching it further.

What can you expect from a reading with Susan?

You can expect an overview in plain English of some key planetary configurations present at the time of your birth that have helped to define who you are today, along with current planetary influences that are affecting you in the moment (transits and progressions).  It is also helpful to look at what influences are on the horizon, since it can give you a framework for understanding what time periods are particularly conducive to different types of growth experiences. 

Some of these planetary configurations are key passages in everyone's life, but how they effect you with your unique birth chart will be different from how they effect someone else.  For example, around the age 58-60 years old, everyone experiences what is called their second "Saturn return" (each Saturn orbit being 29.42 years).  It is a time when this planet returns to the same position in the sky where it was when you were born.  For many of us it marks the final third of our lives  and is a wonderful opportunity to regroup and decide how we want to be living during this phase.  While the influence of Saturn is generally considered to be challenging for most of us and is associated with the experience of limitation and structure in our lives, it is also an extraordinary spiritual teacher.

Given my particular love for evolutionary astrology, I would discuss the Saturn return in the context of the evolutionary path of the particular person who came to me for a reading.

Are you an astrologer?

I do not call myself an astrologer.  I reserve that for people who do astrology readings as their primary livelihood.  In my case I use astrology as another venue for people to broaden their own perception of themselves and their evolutionary path.
